About the data extraction tool

The Data Extraction Tool provides an easy way to extract information about a set of locations defined by coordinates in decimal degrees (DD). We provide data layers such as county, township & range, land ownership, ecoregion, STATSGO soil classes, elevation, slope, aspect, annual precipitation, and average minimum and maximum temperatures. The user either uploads a DBF file containing the DD coordinates they are interested in or uses our tool to interactively convert degrees/minutes/seconds coordinates into decimal degrees. The user can then select which of our layers to sample, run the process, and download a new DBF file containing the processed data. An interactive map application is also provided for exploring the data.

This application was developed jointly by the Agricultural Research Service Forage and Range Research Lab in Logan, UT, and the RS/GIS Lab at Utah State University.

This site has been tested with a variety of browsers on several platforms. Opera doesn't seem to correctly support the JavaScript needed for the map tool and doesn't work at all. Other than that, things seem to work. If you're having problems, make sure that JavaScript is enabled, your browser accepts cookies, and that you have the latest version of your favorite browser.
