Datasets for the 5-state region are compressed and bundled with WinZip (.zip extension) for convenient download
Datasets for TNC ecoregions, individual states and counties are compressed using WinZip ( .zip extension). Each file contains a folder with the dataset in ArcInfo grid or ERDAS Imagine format as specified, FGDC metadata file(s) and a .pdf document of land cover class descriptions. Please see important download information for these file types.
Our map server allows you to interactively define an area of the landcover dataset to be clipped and made available for download. The landcover dataset will be in geoTIFF format, and the bundle will include metadata and a legend description document. Instructions on how to use the geoTIFF dataset with your GIS software will be included in the readme file accompanying the dataset.

IMPORTANT DOWNLOAD INFO: To unzip .zip files, PC users will need to obtain a current version of WinZip (click here) When downloading files containing ArcInfo grids with a Windows operating system, the following is important when extracting with WinZip: 1) Extract with "use folder names" clicked "on", and 2) Extract the folder to a location on your hard drive such that the pathname does not contain spaces (e.g. do not put it on the desktop or under "Documents and Settings").
